the other boleyn girl

just watched this movie about 2 sisters who sought for king henry viii's affection. the movie led me to the conclusion that the root of promiscuousity was the unimaginably stupid behavior of these royale families. a powerful king chose to leave his wife, the queen of england, because he was curious over this girl who refused to lie down with him. in the end, the girl couldn't bear him an heir and chose to sleep with her own brother, in hope of getting the king a son! of course the king was angered and beheaded her and her brother.

what a tragic. generations after generations later, when human beings are becoming more uncivilized, not only are the royales doing these promiscuous deeds, but also anybody who has humanly desires. a religion's commandment is interpreted wrongly and people use it as an excuse to get married 4 times. some new terms such as 'in an open relationship' or 'domestic partnership' emerge. where's the love?

i can see how our generation is degrading over time. here's the chronology of how i imagined the deterioration of generations is like:

in the 20s, during my great-grandma's times: you can't talk to boys. there's no such thing as true love. your feet need to be bound to be tiny so as to attract any rich men who may be interested in you. (oh ya, the guy has to come from the same province in china as you are) you don't have to learn how to write and read. you just need to know how to sew and cook.

in the 50s, during my grandma's times: no more bound feet. there's some interaction with boys, but your parents ultimately give the decision whom you should be marrying to. yes, you need to learn basic reading and writing. homemaking is still important. you don't want your husband to be dissatisfied with home and leave you for a mistress.

in the 70s, during my mom's times: it's okay to hang out with boys as long as you're with a group of girls. dating can start when you're 18. as long as your future husband's a chinese, there's no concern in his ancestry roots (so long his family background is clean). the path to gender equality is being paved. women still prefer cooking to pursuing education, but they finally realize they do have the power to be as successful as men.

in the 2000s, during our times: technology is giving us accessibility to the world. teen pregnancy becomes rampant due to peer pressure. it's a must to have college education, otherwise you'll be ousted from the good-paying jobs. the free sex practice that many people adopt cause them to turn off the idea of marriage. besides, they have done what married people have done. why bother getting married while many things can be pursued as a single?

in the 2030s, during my kids' times: am i supposed to be relieved that my daughter is not pregnant while getting out of college? will i be overjoyed to find out that her future spouse is chinese? in fact, will any of my kids get married at all?

kinda stressful eh? but i do believe in good parenting education. i hope i am not going to be a typical imposing chinese parent in the future. i would like to be a nurturer who implants logic to my kids. the most important lesson i'd like my children to learn? responsibility. they need to accept the consequences and bear the responsibility.

man, i've thought too far ahead.
