namesake

a strikingly beautiful movie. especially since the memories in india still remain fresh in my mind even after 2 months. the intricate indian cultures, added with an american-born child's rebel against his traditions, dramatized by his wise dad's death. (the son eventually learned more about his dad through reminiscence and going through the book that the dad gave him on his high school graduation) it definitely surpasses all movies of this year to rank up to the top. definitely hit me hard. i finally saw how parents think of us. how their usually irrational objection actually comes from their own experiences and how they want the best from us. sure, they can be overprotective at times. they would never see you as adults who can roam freely as you wish and make all the worst decisions in the world. they just want peace in mind, a pat in their shoulders that they've raised their children to become good people. that makes me wonder whether i shall be a good parent 10 years down the road.

anyhow, good news. i finally could impress this newly-married thai couple to let me rent their room from this may onward. ($400 cheaper than on-campus apartment too!) i got my own bathroom and take note...my own freaking room! not that i have anything against elise, it's been 6 years since i last shared a room with a roommie. it's so hard to be moving around while your roommie's sound asleep. going to the living room is certainly not a good idea if another roommie's watching some reality show. that's why the number of hours i clock in at home basically comprises of sleep and leisure. no school work.

sis may be coming for 2 weeks this summer! more opportunities to let her see the world. meanwhile, i have to figure out how to fix my digital camera. dropped it on the beach, some sand particles may have entered the sensitive lens. can't even take any picture. went back to the basics and used my good old olympus to produce 5 rolls of pics while i visited firo in san francisco last week.

i am wishing firo all the best on her return journey. culture shock shall prevail since she hasn't been home for 6 years. i have highest confidence that she'd be light in the darkness of her 'new' environment.

ps: resolution for the next 2 weeks: visit the chapel! it's only 5 minute walk, for goodness sake!
