motherhood

can't believe that we'll become parents in less than a month! God has blessed us with a new home and a wonderful pregnancy journey. work has picked up for both caleb and i. we've been focusing on career  lately and indeed promotion or raise has happened to both of us. however, we might have taken our careers too far that our conversation is mostly about checks and balances on what to do with the home/ our bunny. funny enough, i got severe cold entering into 37th week. never have i had such sleepless nights of tossing and turning, coughing incessantly, having to gulp down 2 tablets of tums to ease the chronic heartburn, and the discomfort of ear infection that feels like my head is pounded at a rate of once every half second. (it truly hurts to just place my ear on the pillow too!) by the mornings of those 2 nights, both of us looked like zombies and we were in cranky mode. welcome to parenthood...i suppose? this got me to believe some moms-to-be who have been going through morning sickness in their entire pregnancy might feel this miserable.

anita, our mentor, texted me this: "i hope you can find a way to slow down once the sickness is gone. be nice to yourself and lil bub :) that little girl will change you too. in lots of ways. it's a wonderful journey you're about to begin."

it's good that this weird flu virus reframes my perspective about priorities of life. having a checklist is reassuring for me. following through is what i feel responsible for. however, the checklist we've been having may not necessarily be best at this season of life. instead of praying on how to be good parents to little bunny and how we'll train her up in the instructions of the Lord, we are focusing on mindless checklist that may not even be important 1 year down the road. i wouldn't take another flu virus to be reminded of what God wants us to do as future parents.

quoting from jodie berndt's praying the scriptures for your children (again, thanks to anita for the gift of this precious book): "count our daughter as one of your people, and be her God. give her a singleness of heart and action, so that she will always fear you for her own good and for the good of her children. make an everlasting covenant with her. never stop doing good to her, and inspire her to fear you so that she will never turn away from you." (jeremiah 32:39-40)

we can't wait to see our little bub and we hope we'll be mature enough to put her above our careers and things that seem to matter only on the surface.
